Understanding the terms “Blog,” “Blogging,” and “Bloggers.”
In recent times, blogs have played a significant role in enabling writers to express themselves and reach out to the open world.
Gone are the old days when we wrote with pens and scrolls in the hope of passing information. With the invention of computers and the World Wide Web, writers and readers now connect through the use of the Internet.
Before we go further, let us highlight some terms we will be using in the course of this article. The term “blogging” may not be new; however, it is important to explain the meaning for the benefit of those who may not understand or are new to this word.
WHAT IS A BLOG?
According to Wikipedia, “a blog is a discussion or informational website published on the World Wide Web, consisting of discrete, often informal diary-style text entries (“posts”). The posts are typically displayed in reverse chronological order so that the most recent post appears first, at the top of the web page. “
Let us elaborate more…
A blog just like www.ablewealth.net is a website with a layout like a diary, wherein the administrators (publisher) also known as bloggers, write (publish) content for people to browse through and find their interest to read. The difference between a blog and a diary is that a blog makes use of the internet and a computer, while a diary makes use of a pen and paper. So, while you type and post on the blog, you write with a pen in your diary.
According to the Oxford Dictionary, “a blog is a website that allows users to reflect, share opinions, and discuss various topics in the form of an online journal while readers may comment on posts. Most blogs are written in a slightly informal tone (personal journals, news, businesses, etc.). Entries typically appear in reverse chronological order.”

You can make real good money from blogging through monetization. We will discuss more on this topic in subsequent articles.
Brief Origin of Blogs and Blogging
According to Wikipedia, “the term “weblog” was coined by Jorn Barger on 17 December 1997. The short form, “blog,” was coined by Peter Merholz, who jokingly broke the word weblog into the phrase “we blog” in the sidebar of his blog Peterme.com in April or May 1999.”

The Relevance of Blogs
There are millions of blogs across the globe, and according to online reports, there are more than 440 million blogs in the world.
With much anticipation, the number of blogs will increase to 700 million in a few years from now.
The relevance of blogs, blogging, and bloggers cannot be overemphasized. People now rely on blogs for news and to stay informed. Traditional hardcopy newspapers and magazines have now gone online, which means you can read them online in the comfort of your home rather than going to newspaper stands.
Blogs also serve as a means of livelihood for many writers/bloggers around the world through monetization and affiliate marketing programs.
Monetization programs like AdSense, powered by Google, enable bloggers to earn real money by displaying ads on their blogs.
I will talk more about how to earn money from blogging in my next post. Also, I will show you a step-by-step process of setting up your first blog for free. Be on the lookout for that article.
